# Be The Change

# Be The Change

“You must Be The Change you want to see in the world.” Mahatma Gandhi

Be The Change

This is the first week of school for the students in our school district. Every year our school has a theme. In the past we’ve had an ocean theme and for the last few years it has centered around superheroes. At the end of last school year we voted on a new theme for this year – #BeTheChange. So what does it mean to “Be The Change”?

When Mahatma Gandhi said these words he wasn’t referring to changing the world. He was referring to changing ourselves –  “As human beings, our greatness lies not so much in being able to remake the world – that is the myth of the atomic age – as in being able to remake ourselves.”  But when we change ourselves to be more Christlike, don’t we have the opportunity to change the world?

This week I have the wonderful opportunity to be a guest on Debbie Kitterman’s Tune In Thursday.

  1. I totally agree Roseann that we are responsible for making changes in our lives. Thanks for the reminder and sharing with us at #overthemoon link party. Have a great week!

  2. You are so right. If we don’t change our hearts how can we change anything or anyone else? Everday we have the opportunity to make a difference in ourselves and whomever we encounter. It’s Monday — the slate is clean.

  3. So great to find your motivating words over at Deb’s place, Roseann! Thanks for doing your part to “be the change” in our writing community!

  4. For me “Be the change” is the positive disposition of the mind. If you want the change to happen, be the catalyst and not just the complaint box. Though the path may seem long and tiring, the results are ever lasting!
    Very profound post!

  5. Hi Roseann!
My school in thinking about using the “be the change” theme next year. I would love your thoughts on how it turned out for you guys, and any ideas you may have to get everyone inspired! We are needing LOTS of inspiration right now! Four days left! lol
Thanks in advance for any information or ideas you can share!

    • Jill, it was a great theme! We did motivational Monday each week where we all wore motivational t-shirts (and jeans yay!). Our counselors also did a mini-character lesson on the announcements on Mondays. We also had pep rallies each month with themes that related to “being the change” where 1 student was picked from each classroom to get an award. This has probably been one of my favorite themes. It seemed to be more meaningful than some of the others we’ve had! Good luck on your last 4 days! We’re almost done as well – we have 6 1/2 days!
