National Sewing Month

Happy National Sewing Month!

September is National Sewing Month. President Ronald Reagan declared the month of September as National Sewing Month in 1982 as a way to recognize the importance of home sewing. At the age of 12, girl scouts gave me a basic knowledge of sewing.  In addition, a homemaking class in high school gave me a little more background.  Furthermore, the rest of my knowledge comes from self-teaching. The picture below is my latest project.  It is a king-size quilt top (that obviously needs a little pressing!).

I thought I would share some of the other projects I have made lately as a way of celebrating. First of all is a picture of some puppets I made for my daughter who is a a pre-k teacher.

Next is a picture of some quilts.  I am by no means an expert at quilting.  Since there wasn’t a you tube to show you how to do everything I actually read books to teach myself! The top left quilt is a lap size one I made for myself for Christmas while the other 3 are ones that were given as baby gifts.

Finally, this last picture is of varying projects.  The top left picture is of more puppets, play envelopes and tool belts/aprons for my daughter’s class.  In addition it also has a beach towel with pockets and a fall purse. The top right is a pajama set I made for my daughter (she loves foxes).  I used my Cricut to cut the material for the applique. On the bottom right is a baby dress and matching burp cloth made for a baby shower.  The last picture is a set of seasonal pot holders given as a gift.
